Pam Hackett's 8th India Mission Trip to BGSS
In 2009, the PTS Founders adopted the Beautiful Gate Special School (BGSS) in Mysore India, providing both clinical and financial support to this charitable work. The school serves special needs children, most of whom had never had the opportunity to attend school prior to the founding of BGSS. In January of 2017, Pam Hackett, physical therapist, visited BGSS for the eighth time and also visited a new school in Mumbai, India. This new program, Bombay Teen Challenge rescues girls and the children of prostitutes from sex trafficking in the city’s red light district and educates them so they are permanently free.
Ms. Hackett’s experiences working with schools in India has been instrumental in the development of PTS’ model for serving special needs children, emphasizing empowering parents and teachers with therapeutic strategies that can be implemented in all areas of a child’s life. She provides treatment demonstrations as well as teacher and parent training, so that children can continue to benefit from interventions throughout the rest of the year.
The brief video slideshow below will give you a window into the world of special education in developing countries and PTS’ commitment to transforming the lives of these incredible young students.
