A BSC is responsible for the behavioral assessment and monitoring of students. The behavior specialist will work with the multidisciplinary team to generate and implement positive behavior support plans to remediate behavioral and social problems for students in general or special education programs. She/he is also available for consultation to school personnel and parents of these students. The role of the behavior specialist is to facilitate, assess and support instructional programs for students in general and special education; provide training and work collaboratively with teachers, aides and support staff to demonstrate best practices, strategies and techniques to enhance instruction for students with social, communicative, behavioral and learning challenges. The behavior specialist provides preventative classroom strategies for groups and individuals which maximize learning and reduce maladaptive behaviors in the school environment. PTS supports the behavior specialists’ role in designing and supporting a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework appropriate for students K-12.
