Over the past decade we have seen more and more students with complex medical needs returning to their home districts. The opportunity for these children to interact with their peers and experience being a part of a school community is invaluable. To ensure the safety and wellness of these students, the support of nurses in the classroom has become a key component of successful programming. For many nurses, however, the schools are not a familiar environment. Their medical training did not include many key skills needed to interact with students with special needs throughout the school day. As the region’s leading school-based therapy provider, PTS has a long history of empowering teachers to better serve children with disabilities. PTS is furthering this mission by providing school-based LPN’s and RN’s who will be trained on many of the tools and strategies that therapists and teachers use to facilitate learning, improve positioning, and support positive behavior. This will make nurses an even greater asset to the classroom and your students as they partner with your teachers and therapy team to carry over effective therapeutic techniques. All PTS RN’s and LPN’s are licensed, CPR certified, and have the appropriate clearances to make them eligible to work in a school setting.
